Many Australians first think about a donation at tax time, which is a good moment to ask where the money will do the most good. PBG Foundation directs gifts to practical projects in the Pacific, from safe public spaces to the roads that connect villages with clinics and schools. If you want your gift to be deductible, the ATO requires it to go to a Deductible Gift Recipient, be $2 or more and bring nothing material in return.
Ask any charity for its receipting details before you give so there are no surprises when you lodge your return, and keep a record of every gift. Giving earlier in the year, rather than in the last days of June, leaves time to choose causes carefully. This is general information, not tax advice.

The Four Checks For A Deductible Gift
The ATO rules are short but strict. These four checks cover most gifts made from Sale, Victoria.
Check DGR status
Only gifts to organisations endorsed as Deductible Gift Recipients can be claimed. Check ABN Lookup or ask the charity.
Give $2 or more
The gift must be money or eligible property worth $2 or more, given voluntarily.
Nothing in return
Raffle tickets, dinners and merchandise are not deductible gifts. A genuine donation gets nothing material back.
Keep the record
Keep your receipt or bank record and give by 30 June to claim in that financial year.
